As I finish up my graduate studies, one thing has become clear: nothing in conservation happens without buy-in and support from everyone. Conservation is just too big and complicated for an elite team of professionals to make all of the calls on their own. No matter how much good research exists, it can’t be completely effective unless it takes to heart what is relevant and important to all of us.

Seeking hope in the Kay Gardner

I graduated from LEAF’s Tree Tenders Volunteer Training Program a year ago – in May 2011. This January, I was invited to participate in the Emerald Ash Borer Park Challenge. The purpose of this collaborative project with the City of Toronto was to help identify ash trees in city parks that are eligible to receive preventive TreeAzin injections to protect them against the Emerald Ash Borer infestation.
