In this month’s Lifestyles of the Green and Leafy, we introduce Miss Brinker – a tulip tree planted circa 2003 but with a soul from the 1860's! Miss Brinker was brought in to replace two Chinese elms that had been removed – she had a big space to fill. “She grew like crazy! She is now incredibly large and lush,” says homeowner Cathy.
“I love Cathy’s tree! At the end of spring we saw these cuplike yellow flowers – the tree was covered in them. We were all awestruck by its beauty,” claims one of Cathy’s neighbours.

Miss Brinker is admired by everyone around – neighbours, birds and other trees. “I joined the family in 2007,” says the fir tree. “Even though I’m the youngest of the bunch, Miss Brinker is the star of the show and gets all of the attention.”
However, Miss Brinker hasn’t always lived a charmed life. Cathy remembers back when her beloved tulip tree became the victim of a violent storm, “It was a heart-stopping moment. A large limb broke off from the centre top of the tree. I emailed LEAF and they sent out a tree doctor [arborist] to see if she would make it. The doctor assured me she would recover and now she looks good as new!”
Thanks, Cathy. We'll be following this tree!
