The 2026 Halton Hills Native Tree & Shrub Sale will open soon!

Online sale opens Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. and closes Sunday, September 13, 2026, or until supplies last.

Learn more about the initiative by signing up for the 2026 Halton Hills Native Tree & Shrub Sale Information Session on Thursday, August 27, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A recording will be provided to everyone who registers.

 

Participate in the Town of Halton Hills Native Tree & Shrub Sale where Halton Hills residents can purchase a total of 10 native trees and/or shrubs at a subsidized cost of $10 each plus HST.

This initiative helps property owners enhance their property with native species, support local biodiversity and create healthier backyard habitats. 

Participants also receive expert guidance throughout the process, including assistance with species selection, planting location recommendations and maintenance advice.

 

Why Plant Native Species? 

Planting native species is a simple way to support a healthy environment and enhance nature at home while creating a more resilient, low-maintenance landscape. 

Native trees and shrubs are best suited to the growing conditions in Halton Hills and can:

  • Support local birds, pollinators, and wildlife
  • Require less water and maintenance once established
  • Improve soil health and reduce stormwater runoff
  • Strengthen our community’s climate resilience

 

What’s Included

  • Participants can purchase up to 10 native trees and/or shrubs per property at a subsidized cost of $10 each, plus HST. 
  • Trees and shrubs are in 2- to 3-gallon pots. Trees are about 2 to 5 feet tall (as shown in the photo to the left). Shrubs are about 1 to 2 feet tall. 
  • Tree guards will be provided for appropriate species. 
  • The pick-up event is on Saturday, September 26. Free mulch will be available (bring your own container), and an arborist will be available for questions.
  • A free online workshop on Thursday, August 27 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. will be held for Halton Hills residents interested in participating in this initiative or wanting to learn about planting native species.
  • Planting and care resources.
  • Optional in-person follow-up support after planting.

    • Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
    • Participants can pre-select their pickup time a few weeks before the event
    • Trafalgar Sports Park, 11494 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown

 

Eligibility

To take part in this initiative, you must:

  • Live in Halton Hills
  • Show proof of residency that matches the order address at the pick-up event
  • Sign a “Property Owner Agreement” that lists the terms of the initiative at the pick-up event
    • I will plant my tree(s)/shrub(s) on private property within the Town of Halton Hills.
    • I will follow the planting guidelines provided, ensuring my tree(s)/shrub(s) have the best chance to thrive.
    • I will follow the care guidelines provided, including watering twice per week from April through November for the first two years after planting (necessary for tree/shrub survival and health).
    • I understand I am responsible for performing all necessary underground utility locates before I plant my tree(s)/shrub(s).
    • I give LEAF permission to share my information with the Town of Halton Hills.
    • I understand that LEAF and/or the Town of Halton Hills may contact me during the first two years after planting to arrange a mutually convenient time to visit my property and monitor the health of my tree(s)/shrub(s). They may also contact me to gather feedback and evaluate the initiative.
    • I understand all sales are final and there is no warranty on the tree(s)/shrub(s) I purchase through this initiative.
  • Plant all purchased items on your own property in Halton Hills

 

How it works

1. Learn about the Initiative

Join our free virtual workshop to learn about:

  • The benefits of native species
  • How to choose the right plant for your yard
  • Planting and care tips
  • What to expect at the pick‑up event
  • How follow‑up visits work

You’ll also receive access to LEAF’s planting and care resources (online videos, printable guides, etc.) to help you get started with confidence.

2. Assess Your Yard

Before placing your order, think about the conditions in your yard, including:

  • Sun exposure
  • Soil type
  • Available planting space and distance from buildings, fences and other trees

3. Choose Your Plants

Review the species offered below to choose the trees that best fit your space. Click each species name to view a profile with photos and more details.

All species offered grow best in full sun and can tolerate a range of soil conditions.

4. Place Your Order

Starting August 12 at 12:00 p.m. EST, visit the online store to:

  • Select your species
  • Order a maximum of 10 trees/shrubs
  • Review the Property Owners Agreement and understand that the Agreement will be required to be signed when picking up your tree(s) and/or shrub(s)
  • Pay securely online
5. How to Pick Up Your Tree(s) / Shrub(s)
  • Add a reminder to your calendar for the Pickup Event on Saturday, September 26. 
  • Watch for an email a few weeks before the pickup event to pre-select your pickup time. 
  • Arrive at Trafalgar Sports Park (11494 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, ON L7G 4S4) at your pickup time. Please use the Trafalgar Road entrance. Note: Traffic will be one way only. 17 Side Road will be the exit and for emergency vehicles only. 
  • Follow signs to the tree/shrub pickup location. 
6. Plant and Care for Your New Tree(s) and Shrub(s)

Before the pick-up event, you’ll receive an email with:

  • Links to videos and resources with practical tips on how to plant and care for your new trees and shrubs.
  • An opportunity to select your tree/shrub pickup time on September 26, 2026, at Trafalgar Sports Park.
7. Follow‑Up and Support

After planting, you’ll have opportunities to:

  • Complete a short follow-up survey
  • Share photos of your newly planted tree(s) and/or shrub(s)
  • LEAF and/or the Town of Halton Hills may contact you during the first two years after planting to arrange a mutually convenient time to visit your property and monitor the health of your tree(s) and shrub(s)
