I learned this, plus a few more things about how to properly mulch trees and the value of tree mulching at the Wychwood Barns Park Community Tree Mulching Event.
The event, held during Earth Week on April 22nd, also gave volunteers the opportunity to explore the LEAF Learning Garden, a native plant demonstration garden in Wychwood Barns Park, which is cared for by community stewards.
Prior to mulching, LEAF had a nice ceremony to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for its generous support of LEAF’s programs. During the ceremony, I had a chance to better understand LEAF and its mission which further cemented my support for this fantastic organization. The organization is no doubt run by very talented and intelligent individuals who are passionate and love what they do.
Shortly after, various members of LEAF, which included volunteers, staff and board members, worked together to mulch the park trees. The mulch was provided by the City of Toronto's Urban Forestry and smelled amazing. I found the whole experience quite interesting and fun. It was a productive session and everyone was quick to jump in and get their hands dirty in the fresh mulch!
