Find out where to find LEAF as we transition from May into June and discover lots of great environmental and community events around the City!

On Thursday May 29th, we will be at the Ward 22 Community Environment Day hosted by Councillor Matlow. It's a chance for local residents to recycle and safely dispose of unwanted items and to learn about the work of local environmental organizations – like LEAF! It will also be a great opportunity to encourage people to plant trees or join a tree tour!

North York Memorial Arena (near Yonge St. and Eglinton Ave.) 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

On Saturday May 31st, Erin will be hosting an Emerald Ash Borer Ambassador Workshop. If you want to learn more about this little beetle that is devastating our urban forest, this is the workshop for you! You’ll learn how to identify ash trees and the signs of EAB, as well as share ideas about the most effective ways to inform your neighbours. Learn about planting programs and ways to get new trees growing in your neighbourhood. Help spread the word and become an EAB Ambassador.

York Region Administration Centre, Newmarket. FREE, but registration is required.

Saturday May 31st will also see us at the Horticultural Societies of Parkdale and Toronto’s annual plant fair. For beginning and sophisticated gardeners, there will be choice plants, a “Green Elephant” sale, herbs and hard-to-get perennials from select GTA nurseries and member’s own gardens—all at the best prices in town! Bring your questions, experts will be there to help! While you browse for plants, check out the LEAF table! We’ll be there from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Parkdale Public School and Community Centre (in the gym), at 78 Seaforth Avenue.

On Sunday June 1st, we’ll be hosting A Tree Tour Through Old Cabbagetown, along with our friends at Cabbagetown ReLEAF. The neighbourhood of Cabbagetown has many stories to tell, and its urban forest is no exception. Join us to explore the diversity of trees along the streets and in the parks, from stately oaks and flowering magnolias to rugged forests on ravine slopes.  Meet an old Kentucky coffeetree, and an enormous white ash tree that hopes to survive the Emerald Ash Borer. This Tree Tour will wind through some of Cabbagetown’s quiet residential streets and parks, through Riverdale Farm and along the edge the Lower Don Valley.

12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Wellesley Park (southeast corner of Sumach St. and Winchester St.)  Registration recommended.
