Before you start digging up the yard or trimming those overgrown tree branches, make sure you’re taking the necessary precautions around electrical infrastructure. With two small kids of my own running our house, safety is something I’ve learned to take personally.

Awareness and education are critical in preventing accidents. For a quick refresher, check out this video featuring City TV's Frankie Flower's with tips for working around the home safely:

Make sure you’re aware of overhead power lines and underground electrical equipment. If you’re concerned about tree branches or shrubs around wires or equipment, call us. We have trained arborists who will attempt to directionally prune the trees (train them to grow away from power lines) or provide guidance on choosing an arborist. Stay safe and don’t attempt to do the work yourself. You can call our forestry team directly at 416-542-7800.
If you’re planning on doing a lot of digging this season, be sure to confirm whether any underground infrastructure is present. Ontario One Call is a not-for-profit agency that offers a free locating service. Requests need to be made five working days in advance and can be made by phone 1-800-400-2255 or at www.on1call.com.
Wishing you and your family a safe and happy season!

Just as we do every year, we will be partnering with Toronto Hydro staff for this year's upcoming Earth Day to plant hundreds of trees at a selected site in Toronto.
