It’s earth week! Here at LEAF we are going to be busy celebrating our planet!

Tuesday is Earth Day and we will be at two exciting events!

The Toronto Botanical Garden is hosting an Ice Storm Open House. It’s an advice clinic for people interested in helping their trees and the urban forest recover from our harsh winter. LEAF’s Mark Sherman will be presenting alongside experts from the City of Toronto and International Society of Arboriculture about the importance of replanting a diversity of species. LEAF and other urban forestry folks will be on hand to talk one-on-one about what people can do to replant! Join us from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for this informative and FREE event!

LEAF will also have a table at an Earth Day celebration focused on Turning Inspiration into Action. Award-winning activist, writer and poet Julia Butterfly Hill and visionary educator, cultural engineer and consultant Mark Morey will offer solutions and strategies for environmental action. University of Toronto, OISE Auditorium, 252 Bloor St W, Toronto. 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Wednesday is another busy day!

Join LEAF and the Wychwood community as we welcome spring by mulching the trees in Wychwood Barns Park. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. with a short ceremony to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the City of Toronto for their support of LEAF’s programs. Come get your hands in the dirt and connect with the LEAF community!

LEAF will also be part of York Region’s earth week celebration where we will talk about our urban forest and the importance of planting trees properly. Visit us if you’re in the Newmarket neighbourhood! York Region Administrative Building.10:00 a.m. to1:00 p.m.

From Friday to Sunday The Green Living Show is coming to town! LEAF will be showing off several art pieces created from branches of the Maple Leaf Forever tree - these pieces will be auctioned later this year to raise funds for LEAF programs, so we want to drum up interest! And, as always, we want to encourage people to plant trees and join our tree tours! Stop by our exhibit in the City of Toronto Booth (# 2845) at the Direct Energy Centre.

Lastly, on Sunday we’ll have a table at Councillor Mihevc’s Ward 21 Community Environment Day. Community Environment Days are a chance for local residents to recycle and safely dispose of unwanted items as well as learn about the work of local environmental organizations – like LEAF! It will be a great opportunity to encourage people to plant a tree or join a tree tour! Come visit us at the Wychwood Barns between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
