Are you ready for some summer fun with the Homegrown National Park Project? On Wednesday July 9, we’ll be at the Homegrown National Park’s Fort York Outdoor Movie Screening. They'll be showing a great documentary called Project Wild Thing on a 40-foot screen. But that's not all – there will be food and drinks, and all-you-can-eat marshmallows by the campfire. And a six-piece jazz band. Plus a bunch of great community groups (like LEAF!) will have information about how you can help bring nature home to the city. Stop by our table on Garrison Common between 6 and 9 p.m. – movie starts after dark!
Also, check out our booth at the Ward 26 Community Environment Day, hosted by Councillor Parker on Thursday! East York Town Centre, 4-8 p.m.
And on Saturday we’re doing a bike tour! Similar to our usual walking tours, Trees By Two Wheels: A Biking Tour of the Urban Forest will be a chance to explore the urban forest by bike. Of course, bicycles and trees contribute to cleaner air and a greener, more livable city. This tour will give you a new perspective on trees and urban cycling infrastructure. Discover different trees and their interesting tales, pick up simple tree identification tricks, and learn about biking in the city as we traverse several neighbourhoods and parks. Bring your helmet, and ride with us on this fun, “tree-wheelin’” tour! Meet at 10:30 a.m. at Euclid Ave and Queen St W.
The following Saturday July 19 will be a busy one for us as well! First, we’ll be at the Live Green Festival all day! Join us at Toronto's largest outdoor celebration of all things green as Yonge Street goes car free from Gould Street to Queen! The Live Green Festival is always a fun event! Look for us at Yonge-Dundas Square from 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
We’ll also be at the Ward 43 Community Environment Day, hosted by Councillor Ainslie. Check out our table at the Morningside Works Yard. 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
And these are just the next two weeks at LEAF... stay tuned for many more exciting opportunites to get outside and explore our urban forest!
Robyn Stewart is the Education & Outreach Coordinator at LEAF.
