On Tuesday, Vicki, our incredible Volunteer and Stewardship Coordinator, will attend an Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Information Session in Vaughan to share information about EAB and the work LEAF is doing – like educating residents about their options and getting new trees planted through our Backyard Tree Planting Program! Join us at 7:00 p.m. in room 245 at Vaughan City Hall to learn about this invasive pest - and what you can do!
On Thursday, we’re partnering with Trees Ontario and Ontario Forestry Association for a free workshop to teach landowners about forest management, stewardship and subsidies available for tree planting in both rural and urban settings. The workshop begins at 7:00 p.m. in the North York Civic Centre Member’s Lounge – and refreshments will be served!
Saturday is our Lake Wilcox Neighbourhood Tree Tour in Richmond Hill. Did you know that Lake Wilcox is the largest kettle lake on the Oak Ridges Moraine? Join us to explore the trees in the area and discover ways to protect them. You will also learn about eco-friendly landscaping practices that can be used in your own yard! Meet us at the Larchmere Parkette at 10:30 am. And be sure to stick around after the tour for a free BBQ and an opportunity to learn about energy-saving options available for your home through Toronto and Region Conservation’s Sustainable Neighbourhood Retrofit Action Plan (SNAP)!
We’ll also be at Fort York this weekend for On Common Ground, a free festival of culture and community which celebrates the transition from summer to fall and the annual harvest season. The festival is also about a creative exchange of contemporary and traditional arts and culture by a cross-section of Toronto's diverse community. It will feature roving musicians, a kids zone, crafts, games, several art installations, site-specific dance and theatre pieces, and of course, local food. Stop by our info table – we’ll be there from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday!
Will we see you there?
