Hi urban forest friends! I am super excited to be joining the LEAF team as the Residential Planting Program Coordinator. I first learnt about LEAF through my graduate program and I was so impressed with LEAF’s approach to improving the urban forest and the enthusiasm of the staff that I went home and told my partner I wanted to work for them. A few years later, here I am!

The tree of life is a widespread mythological symbol crossing all cultures and dating back to ancient times. For some, the tree of life symbolizes immortality and for others it symbolizes a larger connection to life within the cosmos. In arboriculture though, “the tree of life” is just another common name for the eastern white cedar (Thuja occidentalis).

The sun sets a little earlier, the temperature drops a little further, and the canopy of green that covers the city transforms into a blanket of colour. The city becomes a playground for fallen leaves; red, orange, and yellow confetti to celebrate the end of summer and the coming cooler season.
