Last week, I had the pleasure of attending Forests Ontario’s annual conference in Alliston. Endangered animals are a big problem in the world. One of the endangered animals is the Barn owl. Barn owls are located in Southern Ontario. They are endangered because people are tearing down the old traditional barns and replacing them with new “bird proof” barns. Now these owls are losing suitable nesting sites and it affects their survival. This is a shame because with the old generation of barns, Barn owls actually helped farmers control the population of rats and mice in a natural way.

Hello friends of LEAF. As a new board member, I may be a new face to many of you but I plan to stick around in urban forestry for many years to come.

Last fall, I attended the Toronto Cancer Prevention Coalition’s symposium. What did I expect? Not what I received - which was enlightening.
